What's My "Ideal Weight"?

Many people would point you in the direction of the BMI equation.

Body Mass Index is a fancy equation that takes into account your height and weight and tells you if you are in a healthy weight range, or if you are overweight or obese.

You probably already know if you are overweight or not by how you feel, but it can be helpful to see that there are a wide range of healthy weights for each height. For my height, the range is 104 to 141 - that is a big range! Not really helpful for setting an "ideal weight", but good to know that "normal" is a lot of different body types and frames.

I found an interesting forum also on myfitnesspal.com, that discusses ideal BMIs for women and how both men and women think about them.

I found another calculator that uses several different methods to calculate your "ideal weight" - it includes the People's Choice (what other people of your same age, height, weight, and gender would describe as their ideal weight) and also the BMI range.

Find this calculator here.

Peoples Choice Ideal Weight:

This shows the average weight that other people of your Age, Height, Weight and Gender would describe as their ideal weight.

Women tend to imagine their ideal weight is unrealistically low, so they diet unnecessarily. Men tend to allow their ideal weight to be higher than medically recommended. Men and Women should learn from each other.

And then there is the "Happy Weight Calculator"...not sure I want the happy weight, just the ideal weight, but we'll give it a try...

And more questions on the website...

My result = 124 lbs.

I thought it would probably be higher than I wanted (since you can't be too happy whilst starving yourself), but this is surprisingly close to what I was thinking!
